People with Down syndrome are better at understanding than expressing, that is why difficulties with speech and language can often lead others to underestimate both their intelligence and capabilities. GHADI'S MOVIE POSTER
Film Collection
In a small Lebanese coastal town (El Mshakkal), Leba (Georges Khabbaz) and his childhood love (Lara Saba) get married. They get two daughters. Finally, they get a son, which is an important idea that pressures most of the newly married Lebanese couples coming from traditional towns. His son, Ghadi (Emmanuel Khairallah), was born with Down syndrome.
Ghadi grew up similar to his father. He spent most of his days sitting on the edge of a “Fenced Window” that oversees his town.
One day, the neighbors came to Leba (Ghadi’s Father) with a petition that states, he should leave the town with his family or send Ghadi to an internal school away from the town.
To solve the issue, Leba asked “the Town Gay Man, Lello, the village idiot, Karkar, and a local man, to help him convince the neighbors that Ghadi is an angel.
He asked the neighbors to gather up and sit under the window, watching Ghadi with his “Handmade” Angel wings.
Everyone got convinced, and they stopped insulting him every now or then.
People came under Ghadi’s window, and he was known as “the Angel of El Mshakkal.”
